Error description
When building in an IBM Rational ClearCase 8.0.1 host running Microsoft Windows 2003 server, the following errors may occur during builds if kernel memory is scarce: fatal error C1085: Cannot write precompiled header file: '../Release\myfiles.pch': The supplied user buffer is not valid for the requested operation. The following error appears in the MVFS log: mvfs: Error: {4 pid/tid x/y} mvfs_nt2vfs_rdwr_workitem: Error 0xC00000E8 on completing a IRP_MJ_WRITE with the file 0xdeadbeef. Error 0xC00000E8 is the NTSTATUS code for "invalid user buffer" In this case, the system was trying to do a write of a 73MB buffer. Filesystem IO requests lock the user buffer before sending it down. This lock was failing, but the failure was not being caught. Sending the "unlocked" user buffer to the OS for filesystem IO caused the "invalid user buffer" response.
