"See the log file" during opening or running

Troubleshooting


Problem

When you open IBM Rational Functional Tester (RFT) or already run it, you get error: "An error has occurred. See the log file",

Symptom

This error message points to the .log file in the workspace of a Rational Functional Tester Java client.

You might get the error when you open Rational Functional Tester or when Rational Functional Tester is already running.


The full error message is as follows:



    An error has occurred. See the log file
    C:\...\workspace\.metadata\.log


The caption of the message box is: Eclipse .

Cause

Workspace corruption is a possible cause.

Diagnosing The Problem

In the workspace .log you see one or more from the following messages.


  • !MESSAGE A workspace crash was detected. The previous session did not exit normally.

  • !MESSAGE An error occurred while automatically activating bundle org.eclipse.core.resources (345).

  • !MESSAGE An error occurred while automatically activating bundle org.eclipse.emf.ecore (354).

  • !MESSAGE An error occurred while automatically activating bundle org.eclipse.hyades.test.core (191).

  • !MESSAGE An error occurred while automatically activating bundle org.eclipse.hyades.test.tools.core (157).

  • !MESSAGE Application error!STACK 1java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:

Resolving The Problem

Create a workspace for every client that opens the error message.

To create a new workspace, consider the following steps.

  1. Start Rational Functional Tester.

  2. Enter a new folder name in the Workspace Launcher dialog box.





Notes
  • From time to time you need to use a new workspace.

  • In most cases it is advisable to locate the Functional Test projects and scripts outside the workspace. In case of workspace corruption, you can still open these projects and scripts.

  • Repairing the original workspace might be a difficult task and is unsupported.
