Question & Answer
Question
What is the difference between a standalone/node-locked license and how do I check what type of license I have?
Answer
A floating license may be used by any machine on the network and a node-locked or standalone license is locked to a particular host and cannot be used by any other system.
To check what type of license you have, open the license file in a text editor. Check each FEATURE line for a parameter called HOSTID or DISK_SERIAL_NUM. If every feature line in the license file has this parameter, it means that the license is a node-locked license.
Example of a standalone license:
DAEMON telelogic
FEATURE Telelogic_Support telelogic 1.000 31-dec-2004 0 6CDEFFE49BB3E512F943 VENDOR_STRING=T10-23141 HOSTID=DISK_SERIAL_NUM=d8567c69 ck=70

If this parameter does not exist in each FEATURE line, and the hostid or mac address is mentioned only in the SERVER line then it is a floating license.
Example of a server license:
SERVER server1 0090277882ab 19353
DAEMON telelogic c:\PROGRA~1\TELELO~1\DOORS7~1\bin\telelo~1.exe port=19354 USE_SERVER

FEATURE DOORS telelogic 7.000 1-Jan-0 2 ED40C6922C25EE066C0A
