Question & Answer

Question

Uninstalling DOORS 6.x using Add/Remove Programs is not working. How can it be uninstalled?

Answer

If DOORS 6.x cannot be removed using Add/Remove Programs, the application can be uninstalled manually by following the steps below.
Please make sure that you are logged onto your machine as "Administrator".

Method 1 :

Open your registry (regedit) and navigate to the following:-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER->SOFTWARE->Microsoft->Windows->Current
Version->Uninstall->Installshield Uninstall Information

In this folder, there will be a number of key folders with long values.

You need to go through each key folder in turn, checking the "DisplayName" property in the right hand pane for an instance of DOORS, with the "DisplayVersion" set to 6. When you find this, take a note of the key folder value (for example a sample value would be in the format{XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX}, where X is a digit or alphabetic character), then remove/delete the key from the registry(make sure you delete the correct key, as this is irreversible).

Also do a search in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER->SOFTWARE->Microsoft->Windows->Current Version->Uninstall for the same Hex Keycode.

Export the registry keys with the keycode to your desktop, then delete the ones you've just exported. Open the keys you've exported in an editor and replace HKEY_CURRENT_USER with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Save then run the files, double clicking on them.

Then choose Add/Remove Programs and you should now be able to remove via the GUI.

If this does not work, please try the method below.

Method 2 :

Through Explorer, with view options set to show all hidden files, navigate to
"C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information" and delete the
directory that matches the {<key folder value>} you noted previously.

It is also worth checking in "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information" for directories with key values that do not match and registered entries within the server's registry i.e. unpacks of installers for InstallShield applications that have failed to fully install correctly, but that have legacy files which may prevent future re-installs of the same product. Any directories in "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information" that are not registered in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->Microsoft->Windows->Current Version->Uninstall->Installshield Uninstall Information should be removed from "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information" directory.

Back in the registry, navigate to the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->Telelogic

Check in "DOORS" to ensure this contains a sub folder called "6.0" and if it does, navigate back up to Telelogic and delete the "DOORS" folder. Check in "DOORS_Server" to ensure this contains a sub folder called "6.0" and if it does, navigate back up to Telelogic and delete the "DOORS_Server" folder. Check in "DOORSnet" to ensure this contains a sub folder called "6.0" and if it does, then delete the "6.0" folder (do not delete the parent folder "DOORSnet")

Through Window Explorer, permanently remove any DOORS 6 directory and its subdirectories.

NOTE : You must ensure you have a copy of any current data directory, license file, any DOORS archives/partitions stored relative to your DOORS installation and any customisations prior to deleting this directory!
