How to turn off DOORS database server logging without stopping DOORS

Question & Answer

Question

How do you turn off logging for IBM Rational DOORS without stopping or restarting the DOORS Database service?

Cause

Database logging introduces overhead to monitor transaction processing and should not be left on unnecessarily for extended periods of time. You only need logging enabled for testing and then need to turn it off without having to reboot the server (rebooting the server forces all users to log off ).

Answer

Steps to turn off DOORS database server logging:

  1. Navigate to the $DOORSHOME\bin directory from a command prompt

  2. Type the command

    dbadmin -d portnumber@serverhostname -serverlogging 0

    For example dbadmin -d 36677@127.0.0.1 -serverlogging 0

This turns off the logging mechanism.
