Question
How do you create a custom module template in IBM Rational DOORS?
Answer
The following steps explain how to create a custom module template in Rational DOORS:
- Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the DOORSHOME\lib\dxl\standard\template directory.
- Click New > Folder
- Give the folder the appropriate name (name used in this example: Test).
- Copy your template dxl script into this folder.
- Create a .hlp file with the same name as the parent directory.
In this example this would be Test.hlp.
- Create a .idx file with the same name as the parent directory.
In this example this would be Test.idx.
- Open the .idx file and make an entry that states the name of the dxl script the shortcut key that will be used and the name of the template.
The name of the template is determined by the first single line comment in the dxl script.
You can find similar examples in other .idx files.
The entry will look something like this: Test R _ SSADM
- Save the .idx file and close it.
- Open the .hlp file by associating it with notepad.
- Enter the name that you want the new folder to have (as this name will appear within DOORS Insert > Template).
- Save and close the .hlp file.
- Go up one level in Windows Explorer to the DOORSHOME\lib\dxl\standard\template directory.
- Open the template.idx file.
- Make a new entry in the file that gives the name of the new folder, a shortcut key and a short description of the folder: Test A _ Test Template
- Save and close the template.idx file.
- Start Rational DOORS client and within a module select Insert >Template.
You should now see your new template folder.
