Launchpad might not start when running as non-root on Linux on IBM System z

Troubleshooting

Problem

The IBM® WebSphere® Application Server launchpad application requires write and execute permission to the []tmp[] directory and fails to run without the correct permissions. Non-root users on Linux® on IBM System z™ might not have write and execute permission to this directory. You might see error messages similar to the following: [] ./launchpad.sh: line 31: cd: /tmp/IBM_LaunchPad_8452: No such file or directory cp: cannot create regular file `/tmp/IBM_LaunchPad_8452': Permission denied cp: cannot create regular file `/tmp/IBM_LaunchPad_8452': Permission denied ./launchpad.sh: line 64: /tmp/IBM_LaunchPad_8452/launchpadExports: No such file or directory ./launchpad.sh: line 66: /tmp/IBM_LaunchPad_8452/launchpadExports: No such file or directory []

Resolving The Problem

Grant full read, write, and execute permission for non-root users to the tmp directory and restart the launchpad application.
