Problem
This technote explains why the error, "Error 1720 there is a problem with this Microsoft Windows Installer Package," might occur when installing IBM® Rational® RequisitePro.
Symptom
The full error message is:
Error 1720 there is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run.
Cause
This issue is the result of the Windows Script 5.6 component not being installed on the system.
Another cause of this issue is an operating system related problem. The Windows Management Instrumentation might be corrupt.
Resolving The Problem
To resolve this problem, locate and download the Windows Script 5.6 from Microsoft Web site.

To rebuild the Windows Management Instrumentation perform the following:
- The default location is windows\system32\wbem\repository
Renaming the repository folder and rebooting the system has resolved the issue.

If the vbscript.dll is updated and you still receive this error message, verify that the Windows Management Instrumentation services is started and running on the machine.
NOTE: This issue could also apply to IBM Rational ClearQuest.
