Error description

  • When IBM Explorer for z/OS Version 3.0.1.6 or
Rational Developer for System z - RDz - v9.5.1.4, are installed
on a remote network drive as part of a Virtual Desktop
Infrastructure (VDI), then expanding a JES filter can take few
    minutes.

    Steps to reproduce:

    - Map a network drive to an RDz/IDz installation
    - Start RDz/IDz
    - Connect to z/OS
    - Expand filter My Jobs and observe the workbench being
unresponsive for 30 seconds or more.

Local fix

  • Problem does not happen with a new workspace or after having
    cleared the cache in menu
Window > Preferences > Remote Systems > File Cache
and click on Clear Cached Files

Problem summary

  • When using a work space that is located on a network drive,
expanding JES filters can be time consuming.

Problem conclusion

  • To read the JES filter results, a file is downloaded from the
host to the RemoteSystemTempFiles project (where all remote
downloads go) of the user workspace. To ensure the downloaded
file is in sync with the workspace, a call is made to sync up
everything in the RemoteSystemTempFiles. Where there are a lot
of downloaded files and a user does this over a network, that
call is very expansive but also unnecessary since all that is
needed to sync up is to refresh the parent folder of the
    downloaded JES filter results file.
