Error description
If IBM Rational ClearCase is installed to a path without spaces on a ClearCase CCRC WAN server, patch upgrades to the WAN server will damage the view storage ACLs. Errors will include: 2017-06-07T09:59:15-07:00 view_server(6032): Error: view_server.exe(6032): Error: Unable to change permissions of "C:\IBM\RationalSDLC\ClearCase\var\ccweb\brcowan.BC-VM-WAN90-2\b rcowan_view\view.stg\.view": Input/output error. 2017-06-07T09:59:15-07:00 view_server(6032): Error: view_server.exe(6032): Error: unknown style protections on C:\IBM\RationalSDLC\ClearCase\var\ccweb\user1.DOMAIN\user1_view\ view.stg\.view: The data is invalid. According to technote https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21514940 there are two default view storage pathsâ ¦ 1. If the ClearCase installation directory storage contains spaces: {CC install drive}:\ccweb 2. If the ClearCase installation directory storage does not contain spaces: {ClearCase Install location}\var\ccweb The ...\ClearCase\var directory and all directories underneath this directory are archived to C:\ProgramData\Rational.preserve. This archival mechanism does not preserve the complex view storage ACLs.
Local fix
Back up and restore view storage using robocopy. Process: 1. CD into {ClearCase Install Directory}\var. 2. Run robocopy ccweb c:\users\public\ccweb.bak /E /COPYALL 3. CD to C:\ 4. Upgrade CC to 9.0.0.4 and restart. Do not access views yet 5. CD to {ClearCase Install Directory}\var. 6. Rename the restored var\ccweb directory to ccweb.old; 7. Copy the view storage back using back using robocopy c:\users\public\ccweb.bak ccweb /E /COPYALL 8. Update the views in ClearTeam Explorer. There are no ⠜unknown style protections⠝ messages in the view log. View storage can also be relocated using the following steps: 1. CD into {ClearCase Install Directory}\var. 2. Run robocopy ccweb c:\users\public\ccweb /E /COPYALL 3. Edit {CC Install Dir}\config\ccrc\server.conf to add: ccrcViewStorage = c:/users/public/ccweb 4. Reregister all views in the moved ccweb directory. Note that the view path is {ccweb view storage root}\{user}.{DOMAIN}\{viewname}\view.stg 5. Restart the WAN server.
