Error description

  • MSGIEC0036I and ABENDS002 when processing an IMS PI Extract.
Due to a Knowledge Module (KM) formatting issue during Extract
processing, storage immediately following a buffer used to hold
field metadata may be overwritten, resulting in various issues
including ABEND S002-04 IEC036I in subsequent Extract dataset
processing. Error message for this one instance appears as:
    IEC036I 002-04,IGC0005E,jobname,stepname,ddname,volume,dsname

     1. Due to a Knowledge Module (KM) formatting issue during
Extract processing, storage immediately following a buffer
used to hold field metadata may be overwritten, resulting
in various issues including Abend S002-04 IEC036I in
        subsequent Extract dataset processing.

Problem conclusion

  • 1. IMS x'27' Database Extension record KM did not cater for a
DBXVSI segment length value of zero, which caused the
segment data to be repeatedly output until an internal
MAXFLDS value was encountered. This results in error
ALZ0051E being issued in Online Browse, but not
in Batch processing. The KM is corrected to format a
single DBXVSI segment where the segment length value
    is zero.
    2. An internal buffer is created to
store field metadata, the number of field entries
allowed is defined by an internal value MAXFLDS. When
MAXFLDS is reached the prefix area of the next field
entry is being cleared, resulting in storage beyond the
field buffer being overwritten, which can lead to
unpredictable results. This scenario is now corrected.
