Error description

While resolving an OSGi Application there is a intermittent
issue that will cause an endless loop in the resolver.  This
results in the application never being able to successfully
start.  When shutting down the server an error message will
be displayed from the subsystems implementation about not
being able to obtain a global lock.

While resolving an OSGi Application there is a intermittent
issue that will cause an endless loop in the resolver.  This
results in the application never being able to successfully
start.  When shutting down the server an error message will be
displayed from the subsystems implementation about not being
able to obtain a global lock.

Problem conclusion

The resolver resolves resources.  The subsystems implementation
implements resource objects that are resolved during
installation.  One implementation of a resource in Apache Aries
did not implement the equals method correctly with regards to
symmetry.  This causes issues in the resolver which uses the
resource objects as keys in map objects.  The fix is to the open
source project Apache Aries to ensure the resource equals method
is symmetric.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix
pack 16.0.0.3.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for
