PJ43384: MESSAGE INDICATING UNSAVED CHANGES DISPLAYED WHEN CLOSING WORK DETAILS PAGE WITH EMPTY REQUIRED FIELDS BUT NO USER CHANGES MADE

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A Confirmation dialog showing Message indicating the presence of
    Unsaved Changes is displayed to the end user in Case Client when
    they are closing a Work Details page even though they have
    actually not made any changes on the page.  This occurs only
    when one or more of the fields has been marked as Required in
    the custom properties view layout (created for the case type
    and/or page in use) with the Properties View Designer in Case
    Builder - and when one or more of these fields is currently
    blank/empty.
    
    The dialog displayed when this issue occurs contains the
    following verbiage -
    
    ===
    Confirmation
    There are unsaved changes on this page. Do you want to discard
    the changes and close the page?
        A properties widget has unsaved changes.
    Click Cancel to return to the page so that you can save the
    changes.
    Discard | Cancel
    ===
    
    The behavior is incorrect and highly confusing to the end user,
    who thinks that they must somehow have made some changes to the
    page without realizing it.
    

Local fix

  • The user can just click the Discard option in the dialog to
    successfully Close the Work Details page and return to the
    in-baskets on the Work page.

Problem conclusion

  • Fixed in 5.2.1.2-ICM-IF001 and higher.  The fix for this problem
    is provided in and resolved by IBM Case Manager
    5.2.1.2-ICM-IF001 or later releases.
    
    With this fix, Case Client users trying to close a Work Details
    page with empty required fields but no actual user changes made
    will be able to do so without being prompted to save changes.
