Problem

Collecting data for problems with the IBM WebSphere Application Server Profiles component. Gather this information before calling IBM Support helps familiarize you with the troubleshooting process and save you time.

Collecting data manually

This document explains the information needed to diagnose problems with Application Server profiles.

Collect the following information for profile issues:
  1. If you are using the Profile Creation Wizard, try recreating the problem using the command line script to see whether a different result is obtained. More information can be found in the Knowledge Center, the manageprofiles command.

    If you are using the command line approach, send support the exact command you are running from the command line and any response files used or input files (such as a port definition file). Screen prints of information displayed can also be useful in making a problem determination, provide if possible.
     
  2. Run the collector tool from the root WebSphere Application Server installation, not from a profile.
  1. Send the following file:
    install_root/properties/profileRegistry.xml
     
  2. Follow instructions to send diagnostic information to IBM support.
 
Provide answers for the questions:
  1. What is the exact error that you are encountering when running the manageProfiles command?
  2. What type of profile are you creating? dmgr, appserver, custom, proxy..etc. Is the issue only with this specific type of profile creation or does it fail while attempting to create any other type of profile?
  3. What type of authority does the user have?
                 Windows (Administrator or Non-Administrator)
    
             Unix (Root or Non-Root)
  4. Is this a Traditional WebSphere (stand-alone) installation or a stack product that bundles with WebSphere?
  5. Are there any WebSphere Application Server folders that reside outside of (for example, profiles folder)?
  6. Are you having issues with manageProfiles command line syntax? If so, try downloading and using the interactive tool:
