Error description
The NoSuchMethodException error is thrown when the application calls java.net.URL to open connection with parameters java.net.URL and java.net.Proxy. WAS does not have a method with these parameters. Hence, the NoSuchMethodException is thrown. java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException at org.eclipse.osgi.framework.internal.protocol.URLStreamHandlerFac toryProxyFor15.openConnection(URLStreamHandlerFactoryProxyFor15. java:38) at java.net.URL.openConnection(URL.java:1028) Caused by: java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: com.ibm.ws.runtime.util.URLStreamHandlerAdapter.openConnection(j ava.net.URL, java.net.Proxy) at java.lang.Class.getMethod(Class.java:1786) at org.eclipse.osgi.framework.internal.protocol.URLStreamHandlerFac toryProxyFor15.openConnection(URLStreamHandlerFactoryProxyFor15. java:30) ... 14 more

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: An application receives an * * UnsupportedOperationException * * when invoking method * * URL.openConnection(Proxy). * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When an application invokes method java.net.URL.openConnection(java.net.Proxy), the URL stream handler service provided by the OSGi framework throws a java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException at org.eclipse.osgi.framework.internal.protocol. URLStreamHandlerFactoryProxyFor15.openConnection( URLStreamHandlerFactoryProxyFor15.java:38) at java.net.URL.openConnection(URL.java:1028) Caused by: java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: com.ibm.ws.runtime.util.URLStreamHandlerAdapter. openConnection(java.net.URL, java.net.Proxy) at java.lang.Class.getMethod(Class.java:1786) at org.eclipse.osgi.framework.internal.protocol. URLStreamHandlerFactoryProxyFor15.openConnection( URLStreamHandlerFactoryProxyFor15.java:30) ... The service throws the exception because the URL stream handler adapter, which WAS installs as a delegate to the service, does not implement method openConnection(URL, Proxy).
Problem conclusion
Apply APAR PI99339 to add method openConnection(URL,Proxy) to the WAS URL stream handler adapter and thus enable applications to use method URL.openConnection(Proxy). The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.5.5.16 and 9.0.0.11.
