Problem conclusion
The EJB container bean managed transaction support has never been updated to properly support the UOWManager.runUnderUOW() method, and the EJB container may lose track of the currently active transaction, resulting in a NullPointerException. The EJB container has now been updated to properly work with UOWManager.runUnderUOW(). The NullPointerException will no longer occur. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.5.5.14 and 9.0.0.8.
