Error description
A REORG of a mix of RRF and BRF parts when SPRMRRF is set to zero can result in storage overlays, and potentially bring DB2 down. DB2OVRLAY/K
Local fix
1) Turn on SPRMRRF (1) so that all parts will be converted to RRF by REORG. . 2) With SPRMRRF (0), avoid reorganizing partitions that have mixed row format in a single REORG. .
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 9 for z/OS users of REORG * * TABLESPACE utility. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: REORG TABLESPACE failed with ABEND0C4 * * RC38 in DSNIRLPG + x'2B08' on a * * partitioned table space with SPRMRRF * * set to DISABLE * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply corrective PTF when available. * **************************************************************** User has a partitioned table space where some partitions are in Basic Row Format (BRF) and some in Reordered Row Format (RRF). With SPRMRRF=DISABLE, a REORG TABLESPACE was run against this table space, but it failed with ABENDS0C4 in DSNIRLPG + '2B08'x due to rows with incorrect format being loaded. A storage overlay can also happen as a result of this failure. The reported problem is caused by incorrect program logic in REORG TABLESPACE to handle partitions with different row formats when SPRMRRF=DISABLE. The confusion on the row format subsequently resulted in this abend and storage overlay. A similar problem can happen to the LOAD REPLACE utility.
Problem conclusion
Code has been modified so that even with SPRMRRF=DISABLE, the REORG TABLESPACE and LOAD REPLACE utility will convert the mixed row format partitions to RRF when running in DB2 9 NFM.
