Error description
Disable RRF conversion for compressed pagesets. DB2MIGV9/K
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 9 for z/OS users of LOAD REPLACE * * and REORG TABLESPACE utilities * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Disable REORG TABLESPACE and LOAD * * REPLACE from converting a COMPRESS YES * * table space or partition from Basic * * Row Format (BRF) to Reordered Row * * Format (RRF) in DB2 9 NFM. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply PTF when available * **************************************************************** User had an existing table space created prior to DB2 9 New Function Mode, which was in Basic Row Format (BRF). After migrating to DB2 9 NFM, the first REORG TABLESPACE against the table space attempted to convert all rows to Reordered Row Format (RRF), but it failed in the RELOAD phase with ABEND04E RC00E40318 and MSGDSNU1170I because an out-of-space condition. The problem is caused by the fact that rows in RRF do not compress as well compared to the equivalent rows in BRF, resulting in an increase of space when rows are converted to RRF. In the event that the amount of compressed BRF data prior to running the conversion utility is close to the max dataset size limit, the conversion utility can fail as noted.
Problem conclusion
Code has been modified to peform the following behavior: - LOAD REPLACE or REORG TABLESPACE running in DB2 9 NFM will not convert existing compressed table space from BRF to RRF. That is, after utility execution, the table space will remain in BRF. - When LOAD REPLACE or REORG TABLESPACE is run against an existing RRF table space, the table space will remain in RRF regardless if it is defined as COMPRESS YES or NO. - When LOAD REPLACE or REORG TABLESPACE is run against a partitioned table space, where different partitions have different row formats as the targets of LOAD/REORG, then the utility will attempt to convert the affected BRF partitions to RRF regardless of its COMPRESS attribute, as long as RRF conversion is possible.
