About IBM DB2 Document Manager client/server version compatibility
Important: You must upgrade clients and servers to the same Document Manager version. Different versions of Document Manager are not compatible, therefore, you cannot connect a Document Manager client with a server that has a different Document Manager version installed.
Server hardware
The following hardware is required for each DB2 Document Manager server.
- Processor: 1 GHz or faster per processor
- RAM: 1 GB recommended; 512 MB minimum
- Free disk space: 250 MB
Server operating systems
The DB2 Document Manager server requires one of the following operating systems.

Renditioning software
DB2 Document Manager Rendition Services requires software from independent software vendors to create renditions. This software must be installed on the server that is running Rendition Services.
The renditioning software that is used depends on the type of renditions that the service generates. The most common software that is required on the server that is running Rendition Services is:
- To render PDF files, Adobe Acrobat Distiller and the application that was used to create the original file
- To render TIF files and thumbnails, Cimmetry Systems AutoVue client (not the Client-Server Editions or AutoVue for Java (jVue))
Thumbnails and TIF renditions of AutoCAD 2007 drawings require AutoVue version 19.1 Service Pack 1. Similarly, using AutoVue to print AutoCAD 2007 files (using a Windows print queue) requires AutoVue version 19.1 Service Pack 1.
Content repositories
DB2 Document Manager requires one of the following content repositories.
For all DB2 Content Manager versions, both DB2 Content Manager Enterprise Edition and DB2 Content Manager for z/OS are supported. All DB2 content Manager versions include DB2 Information Integrator for Content.

Client operating systems
DB2 Document Manager clients require one of the following operating systems.
Recommendation: Install DB2 Document Manager clients (Designer and Desktop) on client systems (Windows Vista, XP Professional, and 2000 Professional). Having DB2 Document Manager clients installed on the DB2 Document Manager server system can be useful while you design the Desktop and test various configuration options, but client systems provide better processor utilization for client applications than server systems do.

Article #1273589 Microsoft Office 2007 can be integrated with DB2 Document Manager. However, the Document Manager Desktop cannot detect compound document links in files saved using the Office Open XML file formats, for example, .docx, .docm, or .dotx. You can work around this limitation by saving files using a supported Microsoft Office file format. See the technote for details. Note: Microsoft Outlook 2000 is still supported for e-mail notifications, but there is no application integration support for it. |
