PK69100: PRF INCORRECT RESTART IN A SHARED QUEUE ENVIRONMENT

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• PRF selects CKPTID=LAST in restart situations in which PRF
  cannot reliably determine the actual last checkpoint ID from its
  tracking data sets, however PRF should not select CKPTID=LAST if
  the BMP is being restarted on a different IMS system than the
  IMS system on which the BMP originally abended.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Program Restart Facility (PRF)          *
  *                      sometimes forces CKPTID=LAST for BMP's  *
  *                      which have abnormally terminated at a   *
  *                      checkpoint ID (CKPTID) that PRF has     *
  *                      not been able to verify as having       *
  *                      been completed successfully. This could *
  *                      cause the IMS control region to search  *
  *                      all IMS logs since the previous cold    *
  *                      start for an incorrect CKPTID if the    *
  *                      BMP being restarted had originally      *
  *                      abnormally terminated on a different    *
  *                      IMS system than the current system.     *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
  ****************************************************************
  Program Restart should be changed to only force CKPTID=LAST
  during XRST processing only if the IMS system where the BMP
  is being restarted is the same IMS system where the BMP
  originally abnormally terminated. Program Restart should also
  provide support to JAVA application running in JBP dependent
  regions that issue XRST/CHKP calls.
  

Problem conclusion

• Program Restart has been changed to make sure CKPTID=LAST is
  forced only when the IMS system where the BMP is being restarted
  is the same IMS system where the BMP originally abnormally
  terminated.
  Program Restart has also been changed to support JAVA
  applications running in IMS JBP dependent regions which issue
  XRST/CHKP calls.
