Error description

  • This APAR will address two problems:
    - Problem: Restart dataset was archived. The first ORF job
initiated the restore, but all other ORF jobs start at the
same time could not allocate the restart dataset. That caused
      those jobs to fail.
Explanation: The restore process allocates the dataset and
has for the time bein "NEW". This does not all the other jobs
      to allocate.
    - Problem: When analyzing an extended attributes VSAM dataset,
the high used RBA is not retrieved. This may lead to deciding
      that the dataset is empty.
Explanation: IGGCSI00 catalog verbs are used to retrieve the
information. However, the verb for an extended attribute VSAM
file was not included. This sets the HURBA to zero.

This APAR is correcting the following:
    1. When analyzing an extended attributes VSAM dataset, the high
used RBA is not retrieved. This may lead to deciding that the
dataset is empty. IGGCSI00 catalog verbs are used to retrieve
the information. However, the verb for an extended attribute
VSAM file was not included. This sets the HURBA to zero.
2.Restart dataset was archived. The first ORF job initiated the
restore, but all other ORF jobs started at the same time could
not allocate the restart dataset. That caused those jobs to
fail. The restore process allocates the dataset and has for
the time being "NEW". This does not allow the others to
    allocate.

Problem conclusion

  • The following has been changed to correct the above problems:
    1. IHCXCATI is changed to include the extended attributes
    VSAM catalog verbs.
    2. The allocation is now serialized. This will cause the other
jobs to wait until the first finishes. At that time the dataset
    should be restored.
