IBM Spectrum Protect for Data Retention (formerly IBM System Storage Archive Manager, SSAM) provides storage software solution to help organizations meet legal and regulatory requirements for archiving and retrieving data.
Objective
IBM Spectrum Protect for Data Retention Version 8.1 consists of the following components:
- IBM Spectrum Protect server and Operations Center
- IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client
- IBM Spectrum Protect application programming interface (API)
There are important differences between IBM Spectrum Protect for Data Retention and IBM Spectrum Protect Extended Edition. IBM Spectrum Protect for Data Retention has the following limitations:
- Supports archive operations via the IBM Spectrum Protect application programming interface (API) or the backup and archive client only.
- Supports storage pool protection for container storage pools, but does not support node replication.
- Administrators or clients cannot delete nodes, storage pools, or volumes if there is associated archived data.
- Limited support for server-to-server operations.
Additional Information
You can use IBM Spectrum Protect for Data Retention to build different types of storage solutions, including solutions with hybrid cloud capabilities.
