Older versions of IBM Rational Solution Process Assets are provided here.
Download Description
The assets provided here are out of date.
The latest versions of these assets are available in the Rational Solution Process Assets document.
1.0 Overview
An IBM Rational Solution consists of a specific set of IBM Rational tools and associated method configurations that have been developed and tested together to provide a complete lifecycle management solution for a particular domain.
"rhalden@us.ibm.com"
This page describes method configurations (solution process assets) for a number of IBM Rational Solutions, and links for downloading these assets.
Process assets are available for the following solutions:
- IBM Rational Solution for CLM
- IBM Rational Solution for Systems and Software Engineering
- Rational Aerospace Solution for DO-178B
- Rational Automotive Solution for ISO-26262
1.1 Licensing
These assets are available at no extra cost to customers with active Rational Method Composer or Rational Method Composer Content Reader licenses.
2.0 Downloading a solution
Each solution asset consists of two parts:
- Browsable content - a WAR file which can be installed onto a web server
- Method plug-ins - which allow the content to be customized using Rational Method Composer
Each asset is self-documenting and includes Jazz process templates (including Rational Team Concert process and work item templates) for enacting the solution. Once the published content WAR file is deployed, you can browse the asset to learn how to further configure the tools and process to adopt the solution.
3.0 Detailed Descriptions of Solutions
Each of the solution assets is described in more detail in the following sections.
3.1 IBM Rational Solution for CLM
The IBM Rational Solution for CLM leverages Rational Requirements Composer, Rational Team Concert, and Rational Quality Manager to support:
- Real-time planning
- Lifecycle traceability
- In-context collaboration
- Development Intelligence
- Continuous Improvement
3.2 IBM Rational Solution for Systems and Software Engineering
The IBM Rational Solution for Systems and Software Engineering provides a proven set of best practices for the execution of the Systems development lifecycle. The scope of these practices covers both systems engineering and embedded software development. They have been developed to support incremental adoption, thereby accelerating the adoption of common process support, practices and tools so as to reduce the time to value for the client’s process improvement initiatives. More information.
3.3 Rational Aerospace Solution for DO-178B
The Rational Aerospace Solution for DO-178B is a set of best practices to help organizations develop products for certification under the DO-178B safety critical standard. The scope of these practices covers the 5 main processes described by DO-178B, concerning Planning, Development, Verification, Configuration Management and Quality Assurance. They have been developed to support incremental adoption, thereby accelerating the adoption of common process support, practices and tools so as to reduce the time to value for the client’s process improvement initiatives. More information.
3.4 Rational Automotive Solution for ISO-26262
The Rational Automotive Solution for ISO-26262 is a set of best practices to help organizations develop products that need to comply with the ISO-26262 functional safety standard. The scope of these practices covers areas described by ISO-26262 relating to management of functional safety, concept, system engineering and software development. They have been developed to support the incremental adoption of process, practices and tools, thereby reducing the time to value for process improvement initiatives. More information.
Prerequisites
To browse the published content, you need a web server capable of deploying WAR files. Rational Team Concert includes a web server that can be used for this purpose. You also require a Rational Method Composer reader license for each user who browses this material.
To customize the asset, you require Rational Method Composer version 7.5.1 or later.
Installation Instructions
Each solution has two parts: a <solution_name>.war file, which can be deployed to a web server, and a <solution_name>_lib.zip library which can be customized with Rational Method Composer.
Prerequisites for these solutions are that you have installed Rational Team Concert, that you have launched the Jazz Team Server, and that you have write access to the Jazz server install folders (for example: C:\Program Files\IBM\jazzteamserver).
Deploying the WAR File to a Jazz Server
1. Copy the <solution_name>.war file to the Tomcat server webapps folder. For example: C:\Program Files\IBM\jazzteamserver\server\tomcat\webapps
This action automatically deploys the WAR file as a website.
2. Browse the solution website which is deployed at:
For example, if you have installed the Jazz server on your local machine and deployed clm_it_aas_sol.war, then you can browse:
localhost:9443/clm_it_aas_sol
3. The solution website provides instructions for the remaining setup under "Getting Started > Tools Setup and Configuration".
This includes steps to import process and work item templates into the Jazz environment, and to create projects that use the templates.
Customizing the Solution using Rational Method Composer
To customize the solution website:
1. Download the <solution_name>_lib.zip file.
2. Unzip the file.
3. Create a new library, or open an existing library, using Rational Method Composer version 7.5.1 or later.
3. Import the library files using File > Import > Library Configuration.
Each solution library is based on the IBM Practices Library version 7.5.1-2, but only includes those plug-ins relevant to the accelerator. You can create a library containing multiple solutions by importing each set of library files in sequence, and by allowing duplicate files to be overwritten.
