Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0.0.5 or later and Java 5 * * applications * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The application server hangs during * * start while starting applications. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** During server start up, the deployed applications are started simultaneously using multiple threads. The application start process opens the applications for use, which causes the processing of the application deployment descriptor. During this processing, annotation scanning may occur and the initialization of the annotation scanning filter process happens. If multiple threads enter this initialization process at the same time and do the load of the annotation scanning filter properties, the HashSet objects used to hold the list of Archives and Packages exempt from scanning may be corrupted. This will lead to the hang.
Problem conclusion
The AnnotationScanningFilterHelper.load method has been synchronized to avoid multiple threads entering simulataneously. APAR PM04885 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.11 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0 Please refer to URL: //www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=404&uid=swg27006970 for Fix Pack availability.
