PM07711 resolves the following problem:

ERROR DESCRIPTION:
Allow the initialization of the on demand configuration (ODC) component to be bypassed.

LOCAL FIX:

PROBLEM SUMMARY

USERS AFFECTED:
All users of IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 6.1 and Version 7.0 who are not using any functionality of the ODC component.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The ODC component cannot be completely disabled, resulting in unnecessary overhead.

RECOMMENDATION:
None

Currently only the communication between processes for the ODC component can be disabled, and all local processing for the ODC still occurs. As a result, unnecessary CPU and memory usage occurs.

PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
A new Java virtual machine (JVM) property has been introduced. When set to true, the ODCInit.disabled property disables the local processing for the ODC and its communication
between processes. Therefore, the ODC can be completely disabled when it is not being used.

In a WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment environment, the ODC is used when Web services-based applications and proxy servers are deployed. If either of these functions are not used, the ODC is not used and can be disabled.

Complete the following steps to disable the ODC on a server.

1. Log on to the WebSphere Application Server administrative console.
2. Click Servers > Application servers. Select the appropriate server.
3. Click Server Infrastructure > Java and process management > Process Definition.
4. Click Java virtual machine > Custom properties > New.
5. Type ODCInit.disabled and true for the custom property name and value.
6. Click Apply > OK to save the configuration.
