Error description
The JSP property group trim-directive-whitespace and the trimDirectiveWhitespaces page and tag file directive attribute do not remove the whitespace from template text in WebSphere Application Server version 7.0
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server Version * * 7.0 users of JavaServer Pages (JSP). * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Extraneous whitespace is not removed * * from template text in JSP and tag * * files. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The JavaServer Pages Specification Version 2.1 added the ability to trim extraneous whitespace in JSP and tag files by using the trimDirectiveWhitespaces page and tag directive attribute, or the trim-directive-whitespaces JSP property group element in the web.xml file. However, in WebSphere Application Server version 7.0 these values are ignored and the whitespace is not removed.
Problem conclusion
The JSP container code was modified to trim the whitespace if the JSP property group element or the directive attributes are specified. Note: Using this property group element or page / tag directive attribute will result in the same behavior as the existing WebSphere Application Server specific useCdataTrim JSP attribute or WebContainer custom property com.ibm.wsspi.jsp.usecdatatrim. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.9.
