Access the Audit logs written in Cognos BI after migrating to Cognos Analytics

Question & Answer

Question

How can a user continue to have access to the Audit logs written in Cognos BI after migrating to Cognos Analytics?

Answer

If the Audit schema is migrated to Cognos Analytics then both Cognos BI and Cognos Analytics cannot be writing to Audit tables at the same time. Therefore, you will have to create a new Audit schema for Cognos Analytics. This will allow auditing to occur in both environments concurrently.

Once Cognos BI is shut down, you can continue to have access to the Cognos BI audit information by having the Cognos BI audit package and the Cognos Analytics audit package in the Cognos Analytics environment concurrently. You will need separate signons on the Audit datasource (one for C10 and the other for C11).

Note: If the Cognos BI Audit package is always going to be in CQM you will have to keep your environment running in 32bit mode until the Cognos BI audit information is no longer required by your organization.

Something else to consider is whether the Cognos BI and Cognos Analytics Audit schema are the same. They probably are. If so, you could just add the Cognos BI database as an additional database connection to the Cognos Analytics Audit FM model. Then that can report off both databases in Cognos Analytics.
