Security Guardium : guard_discovery may stall an installation of S-TAP v10.1.4 on Solaris

Troubleshooting

Problem

The Discovery process is calling a pfiles which may run for long time causing the whole installation to stall, waiting for this process to end.

Resolving The Problem

This issue is addressed in the new updated v10.1.4 patch with revision r103116 and any future releases.

In order to work around this issue:

- For new S-TAP installations, disable discovery.

- For customer who runs through into this situation they can manually apply the following command to resume installation:

kill guard_discovery process manually, the DB process specific processes may remain in stop state. To undo this, run the following commands on the Solaris DB server:
    1) Run "ps -eflL | grep T". If any DB processes exist in the output proceed to next step.
    2) For each DB process in the output above, run "prun <pid>" where pid is the DB process id.

This will bring the DB process specific processes out of stop state.
