Troubleshooting


Problem

User launches Internet Explorer (IE), and browses to the Controller Web website (http://servername:9080/fcm.web/login). The IE screen is empty/blank/white.

Symptom

Nothing appears in web browser (for example Internet Explorer) when the user launches Controller Web.

Cause

There are several known causes for similar symptoms:

Scenario #1 - Internet Explorer is configured to use 'Compatibility View' mode for the server
Controller Web does not work with compatibility view mode.

Scenario #2 - The user has connected to the server using the NetBIOS name (http://servername:9080/fcm.web/login). In some environments, it is not possible to use the NetBIOS name.
  • For more details, see separate IBM Technote #301895.
 
Scenario #3 - There is a clash (with a different service) which is trying to use the same TCP port (9080) that Controller Web is trying to use. The most likely scenario is that the application server is also running Cognos Analytics server.

Resolving The Problem

Scenario #1
Modify the Internet Explorer settings, to disable Compatability View mode.

Scenario #2
Connect to Controller Web using the FQDN name (or 'localhost' if running directly on the server).
  • For more details, see separate IBM Technote #301895.


Scenario #3

Reconfigure Controller Web to use a different TCP port. For example, change it from using port 9080 to port 9081.
