Application Manager does not display Chinese characters for English users

Question & Answer

Question

Why IBM Sterling Order Management System's Application Manager does not display chinese characters for English users ?

Cause

Chinese(Or Japanese) text not having translation/localization (i.e. Organization Name) is displayed properly for Chinese/Japanese users but same is not displayed properly for English users.

Answer

Chinese/Japanese literals are multibyte literals and cannot be shown by all java fonts.
To display Chinese/Japanese text for English users, the OOTB theme templates can be extended to use a font which can display Chinese.

For example:
For SimSun font, the default templates for the themes can be found at <resources.jar>/template/resource/<theme name>.xmls [e.g earth.xml, sapphire_zh.xml etc]

NOTE: Refer customization documentation for more details about extending the theme templates.
