Error description
The following problem occurs when running TWS E2E on z/OS 1.11 or higher. zOS111 zOS111+ . A HIGH CPU consumption by TWSz E2E server STC is caused by a call to the w_getpsent system function which provides data describing the status of a process. This data includes, but is not limited to, running time, user IDs (UIDs), groups IDs (GIDS), and invocation parameters. . In the case where the system is already heavily loaded (running at or near 100% of capacity), this problem will appear as a slow-down of INPUT TRANSLATOR processing. There will be a long delay between the time an E2E job completes on the FTA and reports its ending status back to the mainframe (as shown in the USS TWSMERGE.log) and when the operation's status is updated in the CURRENT PLAN. This delay occurs because the INPUT translator needs more CPU cycles, but there are none to be had. . Changes will be implemented in the TWSz routine calling the w_getpsent function for code optimization . The TWSz change team will introduce a control on the call of this function avoiding all the accesses not really needed. . While this APAR addresses the symptoms of the problem, the real correction is made in USS and LE (Language Environment) APARs PM44192 and OA37105. TWSz E2E users should apply the fixing PTFs for all three of these APARS. . Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All TWS for z/OS users running in * * an End-to-End environment. * * FUNCTION=E2E * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: During normal E2E activities, the TWSz * * E2E server shows HIGH CPU consumption. * * The problem is due to a call to the * * w_getpsent system function which * * provides data describing the status * * of a process. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY THE PTF FIXING THIS APAR * **************************************************************** The TWSz E2E server shows HIGH CPU consumption, during the usual scheduling activity. The problem is due to the number of calls performed to the w_getpsent system function which provides data describing the status of a process.
Problem conclusion
The number of accesses to the w_getpsent system function have been reduced in order to avoid these not really needed. 303Y 503Y 513Y EQQPRLVL EQQTRNSL KEYWORDS: ZOS0201T/K ZOS0202T/K
