Which licenses do I need to set up a Guardium appliance?

The Guardium licensing scheme contains two types of licenses/keys:

      1. Base license (Base Product Key): Designates the type of appliance as a Collector, Aggregator or Central Manager (CM).
        Note: Aggregator and CM use the same base product key, usually
      2. Append license(s) (Product Key): Adds specific wanted functionality to the Base license. Requires a Base license to be installed first.


For the general steps to apply licenses, select your deployment environment from one of the following:

    • For appliances in a managed/centralized/federated environment (a Central Manager (CM) and one or more managed units):
      1. First, install an Aggregator Base license on the CM
      2. Install one or more Append licenses on the CM. Push these licenses down to the managed units. New managed units will pick up the licenses when they register with the CM.
      For appliances not managed by a Central Manager (stand-alone appliances):
      If appliance is a       stand-alone Collector:
      1. First, install a Base Collector license (required)
      2. Install one or more Append licenses.
      If appliance is a stand-alone CM /Aggregator:
      1. First, install a Base Aggregator license (required)
      2. Install one or more Append licenses.
      Notes:
      • The Base license must match the unit type (Collector license for Collectors, Aggregator license for Central Manager/Aggregators).

    • Depending on your current entitlements, you will see a variety of append licenses when you log in to Passport Advantage. The table below gives a general description of what is included in the DAM, FAM and VA license types on each of their variants of Express, Standard and Advanced where applicable, as well as the Data Protection.

      DAM Standard Adds core functionality for data activity monitoring.
      DAM Advanced Adds DAM Standard functionality plus fine-grained access control, masking, quarantine, and blocking (Activity terminate).
      FAM Standard Adds core functionality for file activity monitoring.
      FAM Advanced Adds FAM Standard functionality plus blocking.
      VA Adds functionality for vulnerability assessments plus Database Protection Service (DPS), Change Audit System (CAS), and database entitlement reporting.
      Data Protection Advanced functionality with different pricing metric.

      The tables below go into more detail on the append licenses and how they can be applied. The first column is Activity Monitoring (for databases or files), which includes both standard and advanced options. The next two columns are the Data Protection licenses. The Vulnerability Assessment (VA) licenses are listed below the tables.

      From a technical perspective, you can apply from either of the three columns. There is no restriction on the number of appends you apply or the order in which you apply them. Note that if you are entitled to Data Protection, that license provides all the functionality of Advanced Activity Monitoring and there is no need to apply a separate activity monitoring license.

      You can combine append licenses for Files, Databases and VA.
