STAP installation fail with kernel error

Troubleshooting


Problem

STAP install on cloud. STAP service not start from systemd.

Cause

This has been identified as a product defect under APAR GA15687

Diagnosing The Problem

Using Guardium V10 on Linux 7.3 OS.
STAP Version = 101
Kernel version = 3.10.0-693.2.1.el7.x86_64

Customer tried to install STAP into a cloud environment server, but failed with the
following error message:

Following attentive actions were attempted:
1. installed STAP 10.1.3_r101342_v10_1_3_1-linux-rhel-7-x86_64 in RHEL 7.3
2. then upgrade OS to RHEL 7.4


K-TAP is now loading but S-TAP was still not starting.

Resolving The Problem

This has been identified as a product defect under APAR GA15687

Error Description:
STAP is not properly ceating guard_ktap.service on RHEL 7 servers when certain directories like /etc/init or /etc/even.d are present.

Found in v10.1.2
RHEL 7.3 and 7.4

Fixed and verified with release v10.1.3_r102091 on rh7u1ppc64t and rh5u11x64t.

Please install the following version of S-TAP (or above) to circumvent:
Install S-TAP version 10.1.3_r102091 or later.
