Troubleshooting
Problem
If there are many paramaters on a report within Cognos, the length of the URL running the report may exceed the maximum length IIS allows, and an error will the thrown. The maximum length IIS allows can be increased to solve this error.
Symptom
404 – URL too long
Resolving The Problem
From within IIS
1) Select the Virtual Directory of the instance of Cognos throwing the error
2) Double click Request Filtering
3) Select URL towards the top of the page
4) Select Edit Feature Settings
5) Here you can increase the parameter Maximum URL Length (bytes)
Increasing this to the required number to allow the URL causing the issue to run.
