Error description
Every virtual portal (VP) has an internally assigned short ID that is incorporated into the Object ID of all resources belonging to that VP. The short ID is a 16-bit value generated from the host name or URL mapping of the VP by means of an MD2 hash algorithm. Although the short ID allows for 2**16-1 combinations, there is the odd chance of a collision of short IDs for two separate VP if their host names or URL mappings, respectively, result in identical short IDs.
Local fix
The short ID is dependent on either the host name or URL mapping for the VP. Thus, by changing the host name or the URL mapping even in only small way, the collision of the short is usually resolved.
Problem summary
Every virtual portal (VP) has an internally assigned short ID that is incorporated into the Object ID of all resources belonging to that VP. The short ID is a 16-bit value generated from the host name or URL mapping of the VP by means of an MD2 hash algorithm. Although the short ID allows for 2**16-1 combinations, there is the odd chance of a collision of short IDs for two separate VP if their host names or URL mappings, respectively, result in identical short IDs.
Problem conclusion
This APAR provides the means to set the short ID explicitly. When creating a VP through the create-virtual-portal task add the following property to the wkplc.properties: VirtualPortalID = <id> where id can take any value between -32768 and 32767 not already assigned to another VP. Use the list-all-virtual-portals task to identify which short IDs have already been assigned. (Hostnames will show as "<cannot be retrieved>" as these are currently not available through the scripting interface. The respective API change is still in progress.)
