Question & Answer
Question
Can you delete a Resource Pool which already has some consumption records in IBM Sterling Order Management?
Cause
You getting below error while trying to delete a resource pool-
This operation cannot be completed because it will delete a Resource Pool that for which capacity and consumption have been defined. You must remove the capacity and consumption data for the Pool first.
Answer
Ideally, Node Capacity/Resource Pool configuration is one time configuration and it is unlikely that you need to remove the Node Capacity configuration once you have started consuming node capacity. In rare scenario where Business requirements change and you do not want to use Node Capacity for a particular node. Since Node Capacity was being used at this node and Resource Pool has some orders which have already consumed the capacity, Product would not allow to delete the Resource Pool. As per design Resource Pool can be deleted only if there are no capacity consumption records are present for the Resource Pool in question.
If there are no capacity consumption records exists for that Resource Pool, you can simply delete the resource pool from SBC UI. However, If there are some orders/reservations already in system, which have consumed capacity from the Resource Pool in question. In that case, we would need to first cancel those orders/reservations, so that there are no capacity consumption records are present for that Resource Pool. Once all the capacity consumption records for corresponding Resource Pool are removed, Resource Pool can be deleted from SBC UI.
NOTE:- If there are shipments associated for orders consuming capacity, you may need to call changeShipment API to cancel the shipment first and then cancel the order.
