Error description
The client program starts threads throughout its longevity run. A native thread-level allocation for 4096 bytes is not freed when a thread terminates. The client eventually ran out of native storage. This caused multiple java/lang/OutOfMemoryError exceptions. Also, observed was: Trace: 2010/09/19 13:00:01.012 02 t=6A8250 c=UNK key=P8 tag= Description: memory unavailable amount of storage requested: 131072 file: ./bbooorbu.cpp function: ORBR_Utilities::create_reusable_buffer(BTCB_ptr,..) line: 84 BossLog: { 0001} 2010/09/19 13:00:01.012 03 SYSTEM=S36 CELL=M Trace: 2010/09/19 13:00:01.013 02 t=6A8250 c=UNK key=P8 tag= Description: Throw CORBA system exception exception id: CORBA::NO_MEMORY minor code: c9c2e453 from filename: ./bborstg.cpp at line: 128 BossLog: { 0002} 2010/09/19 13:00:01.030 03 SYSTEM=S36 CELL=M Trace: 2010/09/19 13:00:01.031 02 t=6A8250 c=UNK key=P8 tag= Description: Catch CORBA system exception exception id: CORBA::NO_MEMORY minor code: c9c2e453 from filename: ./bboojorb.cpp at line: 1515

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere Application Server for z/OS * * client address space ran out of native * * storage after 6 hour stress run. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The client program starts threads throughout its longevity run. A native thread-level allocation for 4096 bytes is not freed when a thread terminates. The client eventually ran out of native storage.
Problem conclusion
Code has been modified in the "boss_thread_destructor" to free the allocated 4096 byte area when the thread is terminating. The storage is anchored by the "btcb_plx_dyn_area_ptr" field (bbo3tcb.h). APAR PM25162 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.15 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
