Problem
Long text string output wraps into multiple rows when there is more than 155 characters when output to Excel 2007.
Symptom
Data spans more than one row.
Cause
This was a designed behaviour that helps make 2007 outputs more consistent in appearance to HTML/PDF output, but it can be disabled if desired.
Resolving The Problem
Steps on how to disable the limit for Excel 2007 in Cognos Analytics 11 are as follows:
1. On the Cognos ‘Welcome’ dashboard, click the ‘Manage’ icon and then select ‘Administration console’.
2. Click on the ‘Configuration’ tab and then select ‘Dispatchers and Services’.
3. Click on ‘Set properties – Configuration’ in the top right hand corner then select the ‘Settings’ tab.
4. Click on ‘Edit..’ next to ‘Advanced settings’.
5. Add the following parameter before clicking ‘OK’:
RSVP.EXCEL.XLS2007_ALLOW_WRAPPING_SINGLE_CELL and set the value to TRUE.
Note: make sure there are no trailing spaces in the parameter name or value or else you may not get the desired results.
6. Restart the Cognos service for the changes to take effect.
