PM22543: MESSAGE IEF638I DUE TO AN INVALID UNIT COUNT FOR THE DISCARD DD

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Message IEF638I SPECIFIED NUMERIC EXCEEDS MAXIMUM ALLOWED IN THE
  UNIT FIELD may be issued due to an invalid unit count for the
  DISCARD DD.
  
  This can occur when the 'Max Tape Vols/DASD Units' utility
  option is set to greater than 59 and the 'Work File Unit Device'
  and / or 'Sort Work File Unit Device' job option is set to a
  tape device and templates are not used.
  

Local fix

• Set the 'Generate Templates' job option to 'Y'
