Validation of a report with user defined SQL fails with QE-DEF-0149 and QE-DEF-0190

Problem

I am creating a new report in IBM Cognos Analytics 11 and the report has user defined SQL. When I validate the report I get these errors: QE-DEF-0149 Incorrect query specification QE-DEF-0190 A value is expected for the attribute 'modelPath'. Why does the report generate these errors?

Cause

The report is not associated with any package.

Resolving The Problem

Your report does not have any Cognos package associated with it. When you create a new report and after you select your report template, on the upper left part of the window, click on the plus sign enclosed in a circle icon, and go to the appropriate folder in Team Content to select a package for your report. Then you can add the user defined SQL to the report and the report should validate without errors.
