Troubleshooting


Problem

Workspace docker image startup script fails.

Symptom

Error in start_date.log:
Error creating machine: Error in driver during machine creation: Unable to start the VM: C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxManage.exe startvm paw --type headless failed:
VBoxManage.exe: error: The virtual machine 'paw' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1).......VBoxManage.exe: error: Details: code E_FAIL (0x80004005), component MachineWrap, interface IMachine

Cause

Docker introduced a change that breaks existing projects in Docker Compose 1.9 which very recently has been added to the latest Docker Toolbox release.

Environment

Planning Analytics Workspace local - docker toolkit for windows including Oracle VirtualBox

Resolving The Problem

1. Uninstall docker and oracle virtualbox
2. Remove all previous docker images from the c:\Users\...\.docker folder
3. Install DockerToolbox-1.12.5
4. Add SET COMPOSE_CONVERT_WINDOWS_PATHS=1 to the Start.bat file
