Error description
Text transfers from z/OS data sets insert a line separator (EBCDIC NL 0x15 character) at the end of each record when the data is read. This APAR will add new function to IBM WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition v7.0.4 and v7.5 which will allow customers to disable this behaviour.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition Version 7.0.4 performing text transfers to and from data sets. Platforms affected: z/OS **************************************************************** PROBLEM SUMMARY: Previously for text transfers from z/OS data sets, a line separator (EBCDIC NL 0x15 character) was inserted at the end of each record when the data was read. Some customers required a text mode transfer from a z/OS data set to not have any additional line separator data inserted, but just the data from the records.Previously for text transfers to data sets, the agent would split a text mode transfer into multiple records on the new line character. Some customers required the new line character to be written to the record data itself.
Problem conclusion
This new function allows the user to specify new options which will prevent the agent inserting new line character between data set records when that data set is the source for a text mode transfer, and also to write new line characters as part of the record data when a data set is the destination for a text mode transfer. To enable this new function, the following three user-defined metadata keys can be specified for the transfer. The two properties discussed below must also be set. 1) com.ibm.wmqfte.newRecordOnLineSeparator For text transfers. When this key is set to true, specifies that when writing to record-oriented files, such as z/OS data sets, that line separators indicate a new record and are not written as part of the data. When this key is set to false, specifies that when writing to record-oriented files that line separators are to be treated like any other character (that is, no record breaks). 2) com.ibm.wmqfte.insertRecordLineSeparator For text transfers. When this key is set to true, specifies that when reading record-oriented files, such as z/OS data sets, line separators are to be inserted between records. When this key is set to false, specifies that when reading record-oriented files, line separators are not to be inserted between records. 3) com.ibm.wmqfte.convertLineSeparators Specifies whether the line separator sequences CRLF and LF are converted to the required line separator sequence for the destination for text mode transfers. The default value is 'true'. The conversion only takes affect when: com.ibm.wmqfte.newRecordOnLineSeparator is set to false and the transfer is to a record-oriented file. OR com.ibm.wmqfte.com.ibm.wmqfte.insertRecordLineSeparator is set to false and the transfer is from a record-oriented file. The following agent property must also be specified in the source agent's agent.properties file: enableUserMetadataOptions=true The following installation property must be specified in the wmqfte.properties file: enableFunctionalFixPack=7041 Please note that this will also enable all new function introduced for fix pack 7.0.4.1 as documented here: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqfte/v7r0/topic/com.i bm.wmqfte.doc/new_7041.htm --------------------------------------------------------------- The fix is targeted for delivery in the following PTFs: Platform v7.5 -------- -------------------- Multiplatforms 7.5.0.1 Platform v7.0 -------- -------------------- Multiplatforms 7.0.4.2 The latest available maintenance can be obtained from 'WebSphere MQ Recommended Fixes' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006037 If the maintenance level is not yet available information on its planned availability can be found in 'WebSphere MQ Planned Maintenance Release Dates' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006309
