IBM Security Guardium: How to uninstall File Activity Monitoring (FAM) Service

Problem

By default, the File Activity Monitoring (FAM) Service is automatically installed when you install the IBM Security Guardium S-TAP product. This article explains how to uninstall/disable this servive. This is useful if you are not interested on the FAM functionality for your server.

Cause

FAM Service is installed and running and you want to uninstall it.

Resolving The Problem

Upgrade STAP to release 10.1.0-r100474 or later and do the following:


- disable FAM during shell install: Install the STAP via shell installer and specify installer option fam_enable=0 to the shell installer command


- disable FAM after STAP has been installed: set the guard_tap.ini parameter fam_enable=0 and restart the stap

Notes:


- As of Guardium version 10.1 , FAM service can NOT be uninstalled via GIM. A GIM parameter to disable the FAM service is planned for a future release.

- At the moment of writing this technote, disabling FAM Service as described in this article is only possible for AIX and Linux platforms.
