Error description
RD/z 8.0.3.1 limits user variables to seven characters. In z/OS, the limit is eight. This feature of RD/z creates the SET statements within JCL // SET FOOBAR=42 The length of, in this case FOOBAR, may be up to 8 bytes but RD/z forbids that. The following is legal syntax but RD/z says it's illegal. // SET FOOBARXY=42 Open a property group used for z/OS. Click either COBOL or RUN or LINK tab. Click 'JCL Substitution'. Click 'add user variable' Then you would see a pop-up with two lines. Variable name: Variable value: Type any eight letters into the variable name field. You're allowed only 7 but it should be 8. The error that is displayed within the popup is The length of a variable cannot be more than 7 characters.
