Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V6.1.0 for z/OS that created a * * configuration image using a Fix Pack level * * prior to 6.1.0.8. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere Application Server for z/OS * * fails to warmstart after moving to * * Fix Pack level 6.1.0.37, 6.1.0.39 or * * 6.1.0.41. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** After moving to the 6.1.0.37, 6.1.0.39 or 6.1.0.41 Fix Pack, WebSphere Application Server for z/OS fails to warmstart due to a failure in the PM25896.xml post install action. The following message appears in the applyPTF.out file: <wasHome>/properties/service/product/WebSphere/service/ actions/PM25896.xml:24: Unable to delete file <wasHome>/java/lib/cmm/CIEXYZ.pf The PM25896.xml post install action is attempting to delete the symbolic links contained within the <wasHome>/java/lib/cmm and <wasHome>/java64/lib/cmm directories and copy the respective files from the install image into these directories in place of the symbolic links. The problem is that configuration images that were created using a Fix Pack prior to 6.1.0.8 do not contain the <wasHome>/java/lib/cmm and <wasHome>/java64/lib/cmm directories. Rather, <wasHome>/java/lib/cmm and <wasHome>/java64/lib/cmm are symbolic links that point to the corresponding directories in the install image. The PM25896.xml post install action was not designed to handle this case.
Problem conclusion
The PM25896.xml post install action was updated to invoke a new script (PM25986.sh) that will first test whether <wasHome>/java/lib/cmm and <wasHome>/java64/lib/cmm are symbolic links. If they are, the script will delete them and and replace them with directories. If <wasHome>/java/lib/cmm and <wasHome>/java64/lib/cmm are directories then the PM25986.sh script will delete any symbolic links that they contain. Either way, the PM25986.sh script will finish by copying the files from the corresponding "cmm" directories in the install image into these two directories. APAR PM57038 is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Pack 6.1.0.43 of WebSphere Application Server V6.1.
