Question & Answer

Question

How do I to stop Guardium version 10 stap on the Redhat version 5 OS? The manual is having so many options and it's so much to read. Please just tell me how to stop v10 stap on Redhat v5 OS.

Answer

To stop stap on a Redhat version 5 OS. Take note! this will not work on Redhat version 6.

1)
Log on to the database server system by using the root account.

2)
Open the /etc/inittab file for editing. For example with vi

3)
a) Locate and b) comment the following statement in the /etc/inittab file. Comment by adding # at the start of each statement:
utap:2345:respawn:/usr/local/guardium/guard_stap/guard_stap /usr/local/guardium/guard_stap/guard_tap.ini

This is how it should look like after you added #
#utap:2345:respawn:/usr/local/guardium/guard_stap/guard_stap /usr/local/guardium/guard_stap/guard_tap.ini
c) Save changes.
d) Check /etc/inittab that you changes was saved ok.

4)
Run the
init q
command to stop the S-TAP processes.

5)
Run
ps -ef | grep stap
to verify that the S-TAP processes have been stopped.

For any other OS, for example for redhat 6 other instructions, please see this article:
