APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• In DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS, function GEN may cause
  msg DSNR035I Uncommitted UR when GEN occurs at the table level
  when generating DDL for a large number of objects.
  .
  Warnings occur when GEN ( Generate ) causes DB2 to write too
  many log records in one unit of recovery ( UR ), which exceeds
  the threshold number set by the customer.
  .
  SYSLOG Warning messages appear similar to the following:
  .
  20:50:00  DSNR035I  -DSNx DSNRPBCW WARNING - UNCOMMITTED UR
  20:25:00  AFTER n CHECKPOINTS
  .
  20:25:00            PLAN NAME = ADB2GEN

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  There are no appropriate indexes for SYSTABLESPACESTATS and
  SYSVOLUMES which may cause poor performance by the GEN program
  ADB2GEN.  ADB2GEN does not issue a sufficient number of COMMIT
  statements which may cause the omission of any COMMIT
  statements within a checkpoint interval.
  

Problem conclusion

• Program has been changed to improve the performance, which in
  many cases will eliminate the missing checkpoint problem.  The
  program has also been changed to issue more COMMIT statements.
  There may be cases where there are missing indexes on the
  catalog, missing RUNSTATs information on the catalog, and
  missing REBINDs that may cause some statements to take longer
  to process than the checkpoint interval, therefore causing the
  following message:
  
  DSNR035I  -ssid DSNRPBCW WARNING -
  UNCOMMITTED UR AFTER 1 CHECKPOINTS
  
  To improve the performance of GEN please perform the following
  steps:
  
  1.Run sample job ADBCX to create the necessary indexes to
  improve GEN's performance on DB2 R810 and Release 9. For DB2
  Release 10 use member ADBCX10.
  
  2.Run RUNSTATS on the DB2 catalog table space with TABLE(ALL)
  and INDEX(ALL) options. The following is an example:
  
  RUNSTATS TABLESPACE DSNDB06.SYSDBASE
    TABLE(ALL)  INDEX(ALL)
  
  3. Rebind all Admin ADB2RE* packages
  
  If you still have GEN performance issues and/or are getting
  DSNR035I messages, please contact IBM support.
