IBM SPSS Statistics Trial FAQ

Q. I have downloaded and installed Statistics Trial. When I start the product I get a big white box and then nothing else happens. How can I resolve this?
A. This issue is specific to Windows and is most likely caused by installing the 32-bit version of Statistics on a 64-bit machine. To correct the problem, please uninstall the 32-bit, and download an install the 64 bit version of Statistics.

Q. I have downloaded and installed IBM SPSS Statistics trial. When I start the product, I am getting an error message:
  • IBM SPSS Statistics did not detect access to the internet. To continue using the trial, ensure that you have internet access and restart SPSS Statistics. Note that you might need to allowlist SPSS Statistics or Modeler in your firewall software so that it can authenticate the trial. See your firewall documentation instructions on how to allowlist an application.
A: This message will be given when you first launch the software and it can't connect to the SPSS licensing service due to special firewall or Proxy settings. Please try to correct the problem on your side by allowlisting the application. The specifics for how to allowlist this application will vary depending on how your system is set up - what operating system and anti virus you have running for example - but googling "firewall allowlist" would be a good start.

Q. Why can't I use my authorization code on downloaded trial?
A: IBM SPSS Statistics Trial software has been updated to a new licensing model. Rather than using an authorization code to obtain a license for your product, your IBM ID is used in its place. If you require access to an install which requires an authorization code to license your product, please contact IBM SPSS Technical Support. Your support options can be found on the Predictive Analytics Community Help Page: https://www.ibm.com/products/spss-statistics/support

Q: What is the length of the trial download for IBM SPSS Statistics Software?
A: 30 days for IBM SPSS Statistics.

Q: Will the Trial subscription auto-renewal be cancelled automatically?
A: Yes. When the Trial time period has lapsed the subscription will be automatically cancelled. No further action on your part is required to cancel your subscription.

Q: Do I need a license code to activate the trials?
A: No, but you do need to sign in with your IBM ID each time you use the trial.

Q: Are all features/options included with the trial?
A: The Statistics trial provides the full capabilities found in SPSS Statistics Premium.

Q: What happens if I want to use the software after the trial is over?

Q. I want to download an IBM SPSS Trial. Which item do I select?
A. Select the item that corresponds with your operating system. The trial software is available for Windows and Mac.
Windows users: Once you have fully downloaded the installer executable, launch the installer via right-click and "Run as Administrator" context menu

Q. The download is taking more than an hour. Is this normal?
A. The trial installer file is very large. Depending upon your internet connection, it could take quite some time to download. If you continue to experience problems, try downloading at an off-peak time or from a faster internet connection.

Q. I have successfully installed the Statistics trial, but I cannot find the program.
A. Sometimes, the installer does not add a shortcut to your desktop. If you are using a PC, go to the Start menu, and then click on All Programs. You should be able to find the IBM SPSS Statistics listed in your programs list. If you are using a Mac, IBM SPSSStatistics will be located in your Applications folder.

Q.  I attempted to register with my IBM ID, however a timeout message was received.
A.  This is likely related to a network/website issue. Exit Statistics, clear your browser cache, re-launch then continue with the login/create your IBM ID process.

Q. I am having problems installing the trial. Can you help?
A. View the IBM SPSS Trial software installation instructions for further assistance.

IBM SPSS Modeler Trial FAQ

Q. I have downloaded and installed IBM SPSS Modeler trial. When I start the product, I am getting an error message:

Note that you might need to allowlist SPSS Modeler in your firewall software so that it can authenticate the trial. See your firewall documentation instructions on how to allowlist an application.

I have an internet connection and I have allowlist the software, it is still not working.

A. A temporary issue with communication between the trial product and IBM.com was blocking the authentication required to start the software. This issue has been resolved and you should now be able to start your software correctly.

Q. I have successfully downloaded the Modeler trial, but I cannot find the program.
A. Sometimes, the installer does not add a shortcut to your desktop. If you are using a PC, go to the Start menu, and then click on All Programs. You should be able to find the IBM SPSS Modeler listed in your programs list. If you are using a Mac, IBM SPSS Modeler will be located in your Applications folder.

Q.  I attempted to register with my IBM ID, however a timeout message was received.
A.  This is likely related to a network/website issue. Exit Modeler, clear your browser cache, re-launch then continue with the login/create your IBM ID process.

Q: Error 7001 when starting IBM SPSS Trial of Modeler.
>Error # 7001
>There is no license for IBM SPSS Modeler. This could be due to a missing
>license file or no more network licenses available. For detailed information
>about this problem, run the 'showlic' utility found in the product
>installation directory.
>Execution of this command stops.

A: If you encountered an error 7001, with a message referring to a missing license file, it is likely that you installed by executing the ModelerClient64.msi, and not the Setup.exe file from the zip you downloaded. The .msi file is used only for silent or push installs of SPSS products. To correct the problem, you should uninstall the product, and then reinstall, but ensuring to run the Setup.exe file. We will be making improvements to rectify this issue.

Q. I can’t start the trial. I get the following message: Error #2085. The temporary period for running IBM SPSS Modeler without a license has expired. Use the License Authorization Wizard to contact SPSS for a license code. Execution of this command stops. Specific symptom number: 37
A. One or more of the following reasons may apply:
1. Your 30 day trial period has expired for your installation.
2. You may not have write permission to the lservrc file located in the SPSS Modeler bin directory.
Please log in as a local Administrator and repeat the licensing process.
3. An incorrect system date can sometimes cause this error message to occur. Check the system date/time on your machine and if it is incorrect, please reset to the current date and try running IBM SPSS Modeler again.
4. The lservrc file may have two or more references to the IBM SPSS Modeler base module. You may want to delete the line that refers to the earliest expiration date, save the lservrc file, and run IBM SPSS Modeler. We have found instances where IBM SPSS Modeler reads the first license for the base module, and if the expiration date for that base module has passed, IBM SPSS Modeler will return Error 2085.

Q. What if I know my organization already owns the software but I do not know how to find the right person to download it or authorize it?
A. If you are a student please contact your professor or your university IT department. If you are an IBM employee, the software is available for download on ISSI or the Mac@IBM store. For others contact eCustomer Care to find your organization's primary technical point of contact.
