IBM Support

V10.0 Guardium FAM agent license implications

Question & Answer

Question

Is Guardium for Files (File Activity Monitoring) included in the license for Guardium DAM ? Is it violating any of IBM licensing agreements having the :FAM agent active ? Can the :FAM be removed completely ?

Cause

In V10.0 , the S-TAP Status Monitor shows two agents as follows

    • <S-TAP Host IP>
    • <S-TAP Host IP>:FAM

Answer

Guardium for Files (FAM) is not included in the license for Guardium DAM. Although the monitoring component of Guardium for Files is tightly integrated with the regular S-TAP agent for databases in v10.0, there is no selective removal of the :FAM agent.

Guardium Advanced option for Files is a separate license. The program number for Guardium for Files is 5725-V56 and the Passport Advantage part numbers are listed in the V10 announcement letter. You will still require an advanced option license to enable and allow block access to files.

With no FAM license installed and the :FAM agent active, you are still not able to create a FAM policy. By that, it is not violating any license issue.

At the time of writing Guardium Product Management are creating an official statement to address the licensing of FAM in v10.0.

NOTE
In the upcoming release, the additional agent :FAM will be removed from the S-TAP Control display when Guardium for Files is not licensed on the appliance.
