APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Program Restart is not enforcing the 8 character high-level
qualifier maximum length documented in the PRF User Guide
for the CTDSHLQ parameter.  When this restriction is not
enforced, the tracking data sets are allocated without the
program name as part of the data set name which can mean
the wrong tracking data sets can be deleted after a backout or
used on a subsequent extended restart.

    ****************************************************************
Program Restart should not be allowing users to specify the
CTDSHLQ= parameter with a high-level qualifier longer than
8 characters. Instead of the documentated IRT005E message
and subsequent U3636 user abend of the job, PRF was allocating
tracking data sets with a truncated dataset name missing the
critical program name data set level. This could cause restart
problems if a PSB name was shared by other application programs.

Problem conclusion

  • This APAR modifies the code to correct this problem. The User's
Guide has also been updated. This documentation needs to be
reviewed before applying this maintenance if the user is already
specifying a value for CTDSHLQ= that is longer than 8 characters
to prevent unexpected U3636 abends from occuring. If the user
cannot make a change to the CTDSHLQ= parameter, the customer
will need to add either the CTDSNAM=NOPSB parameter or the
    CTDSNAM=NOPGM parameter.
